Using the File Manager

The Plesk File Manager allows you to upload, edit, extract, and manage your website files directly from your web browser without needing to configure an FTP program.

Navigating the File Manager

Click on Files in the left navigation menu. You'll see a directory tree on the left. The most important folder is httpdocs (or the specific document root for add-on domains). Only files placed inside the document root will be visible on the internet.

Common Operations

  • Uploading: Click the + button at the top left, then Upload File. You can upload multiple files at once.
  • Extracting Archives: Want to install a script? Upload the `.zip` file, check the box next to it, click the Archive button at the top, and select Extract Files. This is 100x faster than uploading individual unzipped files via FTP!
  • Editing Code: Need to make a quick HTML or PHP tweak? Click the file name to open Plesk's built-in code editor, make your changes, and hit Save.
  • Changing Permissions: If a script requires specific write permissions, click the "hamburger" menu next to the file/folder icon and select Change Permissions.
