Password Protecting Directories

  • 15 Răspunsul a fost util?

Sometimes you want to share files or pages that only certain people can access. Plesk easily lets you restrict access to any folder on your website using a username and password.

Creating a Protected Directory

  1. Go to Websites & Domains and select your domain.
  2. Click on Password-Protected Directories.
  3. Click Add Protected Directory.
  4. Enter the path to the folder you want to protect. (e.g., `/private_files`). If the directory exists, it will be protected; if it doesn't, Plesk will create it.
  5. Set a title for the protected area (this message is displayed to visitors when they are prompted to log in).
  6. Click OK.

Adding Users to the Directory

Creating the directory alone is not enough; you must grant access to at least one user to log into it.

  1. Click on the name of your newly protected directory in the list.
  2. Click Add a User.
  3. Provide a specific username and secure password for this user.
  4. Click OK.

You can create multiple user accounts for the same directory! When someone tries to visit the folder URL in their browser, they will be greeted with standard HTTP Basic Authentication requiring the details you just set up.
