WHOIS Privacy Protection Explained

  • 11 ?האם התשובה שקיבלתם הייתה מועילה

When you register a domain name, ICANN (the global governing body of the internet) requires that your real name, email, and home address are verified and published in a public directory called the WHOIS database.

The Problem Without Privacy

Because the WHOIS database is public, malicious entities utilize bots to scrape this database constantly. Within hours of registering an unprotected domain, you will likely start receiving:

  • Spam emails relating to web development or SEO services.
  • Physical junk mail sent to your home address.
  • Phishing attempts trying to trick you into paying fake renewal invoices.

ID Protection (WHOIS Privacy)

To prevent this, Ypsilon offers ID Protection. When enabled, we act globally as your proxy. We replace your personal information in the public WHOIS database with our generic company details and a placeholder, forwarding-only email address.

How to Enable or Disable ID Protection

  1. Go to your Client Area.
  2. Click on Domains > My Domains.
  3. Select your domain.
  4. On the left menu, click on Addons.
  5. Here you can view the status of ID Protection and purchase/enable it if you haven't already.

Note: ID Protection is not available for certain country-code extensions (like .de or .us) due to those specific registries' strict national laws regarding transparency.
